This is the second post in a six part series on disciple making tools.
The Bible is the ultimate disciple making tool because it is the best place for people to meet, hear and learn from God.
Just like any other tool, the Bible needs to be properly and skillfully used to maximize its impact. Here is how I try to do that:
I use the Bible to help teams of disciple makers meet, hear and learn from God as a group using a 4-column study:
- We read a passage,
- We re-tell the passage,
- We each share one thing we will do because of the passage, and
- We identify specific disciple making principles from the passage for application.
I can do this better by not overwhelming people with action steps.
I use the Bible to help interested people who do not yet know God meet, hear and learn from Him for themselves:
- We read a passage,
- We re-tell the passage,
- We discuss what the passage says about God,
- We explore what the passages says about people,
- We each say one thing we will do if what what we read is true.
I can do this better by anticipating the messiness of people trying something new.
I use the Bible to meet, hear and learn from God for myself:
- I write out 4-column studies (see above).
- I write out 3-column studies,
- I read and reflect.
I can do this better by being more consistent.
Your turn: how are you using the Bible as a tool for making disciples? Leave a comment and start a conversation!
